We are currently seeking the right candidate for the position of:

INFIRMARY NURSE

The Infirmary Nurse will manage the Infirmary at Tonoas, Chuuk. He/she will provide immediate care to employees and contractors who get sick or injured at the Tonoas work site. Also serves as the paramedic who is the first responder to emergency calls in the work site. Provides limited specialized care and immediate treatment to patients who have been involved in accidents, emergencies, or other crisis at Tonoas work site, and relocate to a hospital.

Essential Job Requirements

The Infirmary Nurse will ensure that the Infirmary is clean and well prepared to assist sick and injured workers at Tonoas. He/she will perform, coordinate and provide immediate care to workers who get injured while on the job. He/she is the first responder to emergencies at the work site and relocation to the hospital. He/she will also perform the role of a paramedic and is the senior member of the Emergency Response Team at Tonoas.

The Infirmary Nurse is required to be alert and think quickly, and must be able to lift bodies onto gurneys and transport them from the scene of an accident to transportation and then on to the hospital. This makes the work of the Infirmary Nurse both physically and mentally demanding. He/she must have a strong sense of kindness and care for human life, as he/she is often the first to interact with victims of accidents. He/she also be able to remain calm under pressure and help calm victims down until they receive medical treatment.

The Infirmary Nurse is further expected to:

  1. Manage the Infirmary;
  2. Ensure it is well stocked and clean at all times;
  3. Administer CPR to patients, stop bleeding, treat minor cuts, bruises, injuries and burns;
  4. Dress wounds and minor injuries;
  5. Quickly analyze situations, diagnose, and determine the proper treatment for patients based on their conditions and/or injuries;
  6. Drive the staffing ambulance and/or other emergency vehicles;
  7. Monitor and administer medication, pain relief, intravenous infusions and other needed immediate treatments;
  8. Stabilize fractures;
  9. Use specialist equipment including ventilators and defibrillators;
  10. Escort patients to hospital and continue to provide treatment while in transit;
  11. Provide hospital staff with patient information including condition and treatment;
  12. Assist employees who need medical services from the Infirmary Clinic;
  13. Assess patients by physical examination including pertinent diagnostic testing to determine health status;
  14. Participate in the care planning process and oversees implementation of the plan;
  15. Communicate with physicians regarding changes in patients’ conditions, diagnostic test results, etc.
  16. Document assessments and care in compliance with standards of care and company policy.
  17. Communicate effectively with patients and their relatives;
  18. Communicate effectively with the supervisor and colleagues;
  19. Manage inventory to ensure availability of required stocks;
  20. Serve as the Emergency Response Team Leader and conducts emergency preparedness drills as scheduled;
  21. Conduct Emergency Response drills;
  22. Assist with the training to refreshes the emergency team members’ preparedness and response skills;
  23. Prepare reports;
  24. Perform other relevant duties as assigned.

S/he is to ensure that all tasks performed are conducted in a safe manner and in accordance with the company’s operating procedure guideline.

Knowledge & Experience

We are seeking individuals with:

 Essential: Desirable:
  • Postsecondary education or Associate’s degree with formal training in Nursing;
  • Licensed Paramedic;
  • BLS; current certification;
  • CPR and First Aid; current certification;
  • 5-9 years of work experience as a Nurse (Infirmary, Emergency Room)
  • Experience working on a remote Island
  • A solid understanding of health and safety with the ability to translate it into procedures.
  • Good analytical and communication skills
  • A strong sense of kindness and care for human life
  • Ability to works well under pressure
  • Ability to work long hours, and perform their duties on-call as situations arise
  • Experience in other Nursing roles
  • 10 or more years of experience as a Nurse
  • Have experience working in an isolated Island
